Who doesn’t love a beach camping trip with a few mates. A few tents a four wheel drive or two, a couple of sticks, the obligatory guitar and a few frothies. Well this story has nothing to do with that!!
A camping trip to Robe, a beachside town in the South East of South Australia had been arranged. Full of excitement all were busy packing and bringing all the necessary gear for a week of surfing, sun and good fun. As a night shift worker my plan was to borrow the bosses four wheel drive, pack my gear complete my shift and head off on the four hour drive from Adelaide to Robe. “What could possibly go wrong?” he thought.
“What can possibly go wrong?”
Fast forward 12 hours, it’s 6am and I’m just finishing up my shift packing live lobster for export to china . As I’m finalising my paperwork I hear an unusual noise in the car park. I race outside just in time to see tail lights disappearing down the road, along with it all my camping and holiday gear which the thieving bastards had stolen out of the back of my car!!!!!
A quick trip back home to run around and cobble together some clothes and gear, see’s me a few days later heading out to Robes back beach surf-break. You can read more about part 2 of this Tragic Travel Tale by clicking here.
The Moral of the Tragic Travel Story
– If you are going on a camping holiday, don’t pack your car the night before, if this is not an option then at least leave you car in a secure location (ie your garage or behind locked gates)
– Not every tragic travel story has to have a tragic ending. Through their smart action of actually having home and contents insurance, I was able to claim for the theft through the policy allowing me to replace most of my gear. Many household contents insurance policies will cover your possessions away from the home in certain circumstances, check to see what your contents policy covers.
